Angela Vellino Chica Designs

Angela  Vellino, of Chica Designs has been creating stationery for the last seven years, ever since designing her own wedding invitations. We are fortunate that Angela joined our design team and are excited to share her interview with you!

Tell us about how you began designing.

I went to school for design in Atlanta at the Creative Circus, after realizing that you could actually design for a living. I had been working for a  couple of years at Cartoon Network and loved the whole creative nature of the job. I decided to go back to school and study design. I always loved any aspect of design, fashion, home and advertising so it was a really a good fit and a simple choice.

Tell us about a memory from when you first started designing stationery.

I first started designing stationery when I got married (7 years ago). I had been in the advertising world, so this was a whole new parameter of thinking. I designed my wedding invites and all the party collateral pieces that went along with it.

I instantly fell hard. Stationery design is just absolutely so much fun, with no limitations on what you want to make. I honestly can say I don’t work at all when I design stationery because it is something I love to do.

What do you do in your spare time?

Spare time? What is that? I like to travel whenever possible, that really is another passion of mine. I love to go for walks whenever I can, it also helps my creative process to get moving. I am a huge movie buff, love to read, dance, paint, eat delicious food and hang out with my little 4 year old son (he is actually my inspiration for a lot of the children’s stationery I design).

What is your favorite fall activity?

Fall in Georgia has got to be the best time of the year. This is the chili making time, festival going and boot wearing season.

What is your favorite thing to collect and why?

I like to collect fridge magnets of all the places I have gone and small mementos. I envision having this really posh place with all these eclectic worldly finds I have picked up along the way. In actuality I have magnets and some cool little trinkets, like these beautiful nesting dolls I brought from St. Petersburg, Russia, they make me happy and bring back memories of traveling to faraway places.

What are you reading this month?

Oh gosh, I am on the hunt for yet another book. I just finally read Bossy Pants by Tina Fey, so funny. I am accepting recommendations.
