Mother’s Day Traditions at Greenvelope

mother

The Greenvelope team is a happy bunch and we love to shower our mothers with love.  We asked each team to tell how they celebrate Mother’s Day.

Kyle: We usually have some sort of extended family get together around Mother’s Day, where I’ll see my mom and grandmas. At our house, I do what I can to give my wife and mother of our 3 kids some time off from some of the daily responsibilities of being a mom, but we’re usually coming and going to a family event (or two) so she probably doesn’t get the time off she deserves.

Noni: Back when I lived with my parents, I would take my mom to brunch at the local country club, which was only opened to the public on Mother’s Day.  It would be just the two of us since my brother and father always had soccer tournaments on Sunday.  We’d revisit old memories and gossip about girly stuff, then at the end of brunch I would give her a gift. Since I moved away, I still send her a gift each year and call to wish her a happy Mother’s Day.

Designer Spotlight: Kristy Kapturowski of Hooray Creative

hooray-creative-stationery
What first inspired you to go into designing?
Well, it’s been more of a journey. I was always crafty as a kid and took every art class available to me in high school. I landed in a Fine Arts program in college and majored in illustration. Eventually, I became interested in different mediums and transitioned into taking mostly video and film classes. I was also studying Music performance at the same time, so really, you could say I was exploring all possible options and creative outlets. It wasn’t until after college that I started moving towards design because I thought it would be a more practical application of my abilities – meaning, I needed to figure out how to make a living in the real world! Over time (and several on-the-job learning experiences and grad school courses later), I mastered design software and tackled various projects, dabbling in animation, print, web, UX design, and of course, stationery. 🙂

Trimming Your Guest List

On this season’s Castle, Detective Beckett and Castle find themselves with a 300+ guest list for their wedding. When Beckett comments on a particular celebrity guest who Castle invited despite not liking the guy, Castle’s response was that he didn’t want to offend anyone by not inviting them. Sound familiar?

Sometimes the best way to stay under that budget is to be really picky about the guest list. How do you choose who to invite? Well this TV couple has an answer for you: ditch your current guest list, sit down with a blank piece of paper, and write the names that come to mind first.

Feature: Scheduled Reminders

Scheduled reminder

We all have busy lives. Your guests have busy lives. When we are juggling our work and social calendars, sometimes just remembering where you put your keys last night is a victory.  Luckily Greenvelope invitations come with automated reminders!

There are two types of reminders. You can schedule RSVP Reminders to be sent to guests that have not yet responded and/or send Event Reminders to attending guests to remind them of your event.  The best part is that you can schedule these reminders ahead of time!

Mountains to Sound: Preserving Seattle’s Forests

greenway

As some of you may know, Greenvelope donates a percentage of every sale to Mountains to Sound, a nonprofit organization near Seattle. The organization maintains the 1.5 million acres of forest surrounding I-90, also known as the Greenway. Their mission is to “lead and inspire action to conserve and enhance the landscape from Seattle across the Cascade Mountains to Central Washington, ensuring a long-term balance between people and nature.”  The Greenway, inspired by the idea of weaving together the urban and the wild, has been designated as the country’s National Scenic Byway.

Currently the organization is working to designate the Greenway as a National Heritage Area. Official recognition of the Greenway will demonstrate the national significance of this landscape, empower partners to work together more efficiently, enhance funding opportunities and formalize the Greenway coalition’s cooperative management style across this broad landscape. Over 1,000 people have signed their petition to make this happen.  Voice your support

We are delighted to be expanding our birth announcement collection! The birth of a child is a busy, emotional and sleep-less moment in life. There’s already so much to be done that birth announcements frequently travel by word of mouth or text message. We think there is another announcement option. Here are a few really lovely ways to announce the birth of a baby in a digital card without having to break the bank or break stride in your routine. We offer square, landscape and portrait sized templates so you can include the best glamour shot of the bunch, since some new parents are new to portrait photography.
