Catholic wedding invitation

For many couples, having a Catholic church wedding and saying “I do” before God and loved ones is a sacred experience that highlights the importance of faith.

Before you get to the altar, you’ll want to select a Catholic wedding invitation that sets the tone for your big day. With that goal in mind, we’re sharing ideas on how to craft your wedding invitation message — including Bible verses. We’ll also share some of our favorite Catholic wedding invitation designs that you can begin customizing as soon as you’re ready.

Catholic Wedding Invitation Checklist

Catholic wedding invitation: cross, chalice, and a crucifix

With such an important task at hand, it can be easy to forget important details. As you begin crafting your wedding invite message, use this quick checklist to ensure you have all the essentials first.

✅ The bride and groom’s names with titles as necessary. It’s proper etiquette to include the names of the people hosting or paying for the wedding — whether it’s the bride’s parents, the joint parents’ names, or another benefactor.

✅ Date, time, and location of the wedding ceremony and reception. Add a reception card to the wedding stationery whether some guests are invited only to the wedding ceremony or both the wedding and reception.

✅ Include clear RSVP information. With digital invitations, you can seamlessly track RSVPs without spending money on postage or worrying about mail delays.

✅ In some cases, you may want to include additional details, such as a link to your wedding website, parking information, nearby hotel accommodations, and driving directions.

✅ Dress code details. Many Catholic weddings request formal attire, so be sure to outline your wedding dress code in your invitation.

✅ Keep in mind that some Catholic churches require guests to be patrons or parishioners of the church to receive the Eucharist during mass. If that’s the case for your church, let guests know in your invitation. Be sure to talk to your priest so you fully understand the rules of getting married in your Catholic church.

Catholic Wedding Invitation Wording Ideas

Trying to find the right words for your wedding invites can feel like a pressure-filled task, especially when you want to express the sacredness of the moment. Thankfully, you don’t have to be a wordsmith to get your heartfelt message across.

While a Catholic wedding ceremony is traditionally a formal event, the level of formality will ultimately depend on you, your partner, and your parish. For the most formal Catholic wedding invites, write out numbers and dates in full words and include the full names and titles of the bride, groom, and ceremony hosts.

Consider these wedding invitation wording ideas, which include formal and slightly less formal tones:

For your invitation, you may also want to include a Bible verse. These can take center stage on the card or added to the backside.

Here are a few Bible verses to consider:

  • 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. “Love is patient, love is kind.”
  • 1 Corinthians 13:13. “And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
  • 1 Corinthians 16:14. “Do everything in love.”
  • Song of Solomon 3:4. “I have found the one whom my soul loves.”
  • Song of Solomon 2:16. “I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine.”
