Greenvelope lets you create New Year's Eve party invitations online, send them by email or by text message in supported countries, and track RSVPs in one mailing. Choose a design, add the event details and RSVP questions, then import your guest list and send or schedule. The six steps below walk through that route in order, followed by the RSVP questions that settle a December 31 headcount and a dated example for Thursday, December 31, 2026.
New Year's Eve is a night when many guests are weighing more than one plan, so the invitation has two jobs: give people enough detail to say yes early, and give you a count you can shop from. This guide is published by Greenvelope and covers the sending steps; our New Year's Eve party invitation wording guide covers what to write, and our New Year's party invitation templates guide shows twelve designs by party style.
At a Glance
- As a planning guideline, send New Year's Eve party invitations 4 to 6 weeks ahead; for Thursday, December 31, 2026, that is between November 19 and December 3
- Give the arrival time, the midnight toast, and the end time (or "until late") as separate details, and say whether partners and children are invited
- Set the RSVP deadline a few days before your caterer's or venue's final-count date; for a house party with no caterer, this guide's recommendation is around December 18 to 20
- Add one or two planning questions to the RSVP page, such as whether a guest is staying for the midnight toast, so the replies tell you how much to buy
- For missing RSVPs, this guide recommends a reminder about one week before the deadline, a brief note on the deadline, and one personal follow-up one or two days later with a clear reply cutoff. Use one channel per guest in each round
- Single mailings start at $19 for a guest list of up to 20 people, with pricing based on list size and no subscription required. Paid accounts start with 500 text messages, with more available to purchase
How to Send New Year's Eve Party Invitations Online in Six Steps
On Greenvelope, a New Year's Eve party invitation is one invitation mailing: the card, the event details, the RSVP page, and the guest list are set up together, and replies collect on the same mailing. Work through the steps in this order so each decision is made before the step that depends on it.
1. Settle the plan for the night
Before you open a design, decide the things guests will ask about. Fix the arrival time, when the toast happens, and whether the party ends at a set hour or runs late. Decide who is invited: named guests only, guests with a partner, or families for an early countdown. Then note how many people your space holds and whether you are serving dinner, snacks, or dessert and champagne. Each of these becomes a line on the invitation or a setting on the RSVP page in the steps that follow.
2. Choose a New Year's Eve design
Greenvelope's New Year's party invitation collection holds artist-designed templates for black tie evenings, dance parties, and casual countdowns. Modern Opulence by Owl and Toad suits a dressed-up evening, and Tipsy Coupes by Carmia C. suits a relaxed house party. You can change the wording, fonts, text placement, and preset colorways, and choose the envelope and liner, as described in Design: Edit Your Card; what you can edit varies by design, and lettering drawn into the artwork stays as the artist made it. If you already have finished artwork, upload your own design as a .jpg, .jpeg, .png, or PDF file.
3. Write the invitation and the event details
Replace the sample wording with your own. A New Year's Eve invitation needs the host, the full date with the weekday, the arrival time, the toast, the address, the dress note, who is invited, and a reply date. Here is a complete example for a house party:

Come by any time after 8:00 p.m. We'll toast at midnight and wrap up around 1:00 a.m.

Dress up if you feel like it. Snacks, dessert, and champagne are on us.

Please RSVP on this invitation by Saturday, December 19
Longer notes, such as parking, the building's door code, or a ride plan for the end of the night, fit on the invitation's details page instead of the card. Under Details, open Information and add the Date/Time and location, and the Add to Calendar link appears for guests.
4. Set up the RSVP page
On the Details step, open the RSVP Page section. Set the requested RSVP date to match the date in your wording; entering it does not schedule reminders or close replies, so both stay in your hands. Under Survey Questions, add a question or two for planning, in a dropdown, multiple choice, checkbox, or write-in format. Guests answer yes or no to the invitation, and the questions appear after a guest selects an RSVP response. The section below covers which questions are worth asking for this night, and how plus-ones and a capacity limit work.
5. Import your guest list and choose email or text for each guest
In the Send step, click Add Contacts and import your list from an Excel or CSV file, a webmail account, a pasted list of emails, or your Greenvelope address book. Add a couple or a family as one household with each person named, so the person completing the RSVP records a separate attendance response for each named guest. Then choose one channel for each guest, email or text message in supported countries, based on the contact details you trust and how that person prefers to hear from you. Guests open the card and reply without creating an account.
If part of your crowd lives in a group chat, a public Share URL lets people register and RSVP from one link. Sharing a public registration link does not, by itself, identify everyone who received it or show which of those people has not responded. If you need to track who has not replied, send the invitation to named contacts by email or text message in supported countries. Trial Mode cannot create a shareable link.
6. Run a pre-send check, then send or schedule
Preview the card, send yourself a test, and read it on a phone. Confirm the guest list and a reply-to address you check, then test the links and the calendar entry. In the Send step, Send Invitations delivers right away to the contacts you select, and Schedule Send delivers at the date and time you set to every unsent contact, including guests you add after scheduling. If you want unopened invitations sent again, turn on Delivery Optimizer, which resends three days after the initial send and skips guests who have opened the card or responded.
The RSVP Questions That Settle a New Year's Eve Headcount
Greenvelope puts your planning questions on the RSVP page, so each answer arrives with a guest's reply and saves to the same guest list. On New Year's Eve the useful questions are the ones that change what you buy or how you set up the room. Pick one or two questions you need for planning.
| Question | Format | What it settles |
| Who in your RSVP will be staying for the midnight toast? Please include anyone coming with you. | Write-in | How much champagne and late-night food to plan |
| Any dietary needs we should know about? | Write-in | The menu, and what to label on the table |
| For your group, how many people would like champagne, sparkling cider, or no drink for the toast? | Write-in | How many non-alcoholic pours to have ready |
| How are you getting home? | Checkbox: driving, rideshare, getting a ride, not sure yet, or not attending | Parking, and whether to share a ride plan before the night |
Questions appear after a guest selects either response, so a guest who declines sees them too; a write-in can be left blank, and a question with fixed choices should include a "not attending" option. One set of answers comes in with each reply, which is why the toast questions ask about everyone in the group. A survey answer is information for planning; it never adds people to the count. Attendance comes from the RSVP itself, including any additional guests recorded with a reply.
Plus-Ones, Couples, and a Full House
On Greenvelope, three separate settings decide who can come to a New Year's Eve party, and it helps to set each one on purpose.
- Named households. Add a known couple or family as named members of one household, following Group Couples and Families Together. Each named person gets an attendance response.
- The Plus 1 allowance. For a guest who may bring someone you have not named, set a Plus 1 allowance. The allowance is permission, not an attendance count, and a companion's name is collected only when you set the plus-one settings to collect or require it.
- Maximum capacity. If your apartment or the reserved room holds a fixed number, the Maximum capacity setting on the RSVP page limits attendance by capping yes replies.
The size of the mailing you buy is a fourth number, separate from all three: everyone on the guest list counts toward the pricing tier, including named partners, whether or not they reply.
Sending a New Year's Eve Party Invitation: An Illustrative Example
Dana Reyes uses Greenvelope to invite 36 friends and coworkers to a house party on Thursday, December 31, 2026. She picks Tipsy Coupes by Carmia C., a card with hand-drawn coupe glasses in bright colors and small stars, offered in creme, black, purple, and green. The host, the guests, and the numbers below are fictional; the design is a real Greenvelope invitation.
Tipsy Coupes by Carmia C., shown in one sample colorway before the host's wording is added.
- Monday, November 30: Dana adds her wording, sets the requested RSVP date to Saturday, December 19, and adds one write-in question asking who in each RSVP is staying for the midnight toast. She imports 34 guests, gives her single friends a Plus 1 allowance of one, sends herself a test, and schedules the send for Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. After scheduling, she adds two new coworkers, bringing the list to 36.
- Wednesday, December 2: the invitation goes out to all 36 guests, including the two added after scheduling. Each guest receives it once, by email or by text message in supported countries.
- Saturday, December 5: Delivery Optimizer resends the invitation to guests who have not opened it or responded, three days after the initial send.
- Saturday, December 12: one week before the deadline, she sends an RSVP reminder email to guests who have not replied, and a Message Center text only to phone-only guests who have not replied.
- Saturday, December 19: a brief final note goes to the few guests still missing, one message each.
- Monday, December 21: she follows up once, personally, with the last three guests and asks them to RSVP by December 22 because she is shopping on the 28th. Two answer by phone, and she records their replies on Track.
- Monday, December 28: she exports the guest list and RSVPs to Excel and shops from the expected headcount based on RSVPs.
- Wednesday, December 30: an event reminder email goes to the guests marked attending, with the door code and a note about rideshare pickup on the corner.
Illustrative summary of fictional replies; not a reproduction of the Greenvelope interface.
| On December 28 | Count |
| Originally invited guests | 36 |
| Replied yes | 26 |
| Replied no | 9 |
| No reply after follow-up | 1 |
| Additional guests recorded with yes replies | 5 |
| Expected headcount based on RSVPs | 31 |
The 26 yes replies, 9 no replies, and 1 guest who never answered account for all 36 people on the list, and 26 guests plus 5 additional guests make the expected 31. Dana plans food for 31 guests, plus herself and Chris. Before buying drinks, she reads the write-in answers to confirm who is staying for the toast, including the five additional guests. The dates and numbers are illustrative.
After You Send: Reminders, Late Replies, and Changes
On Greenvelope, replies collect on the mailing's Track step, where you can see who has accepted, who has declined, and who has not answered. For email and text sends, you can also see whether Greenvelope recorded the card as opened. Use that list to decide who needs a follow-up and who does not.
- Guests who have not replied. You can send or schedule RSVP reminder emails to guests who have not replied. Reminders are something you set up; the RSVP date alone does not send them.
- Guests with only a phone number. Send a text through the Message Center on a paid account, or a personal text asking them to reply on the invitation, for example: "Hi Priya, I hope you can make it on New Year's Eve. Could you RSVP on the invitation by December 22? I'm shopping on the 28th."
- Guests who said yes but skipped a question. Send that guest a short message asking for the answer. An RSVP reminder goes only to people who have not replied, so it will not reach them.
- Replies that reach you another way. When someone answers by phone or in person, record the reply manually so your count stays in one place.
- Late replies. RSVPs do not close automatically at the deadline. Leave them open if a late yes is welcome, or close them yourself once you have shopped.
- Changes to the plan. You can edit the card after sending, for up to five months, and the links guests already have show the updated card. If the start time or the address changes, also tell guests directly.
Before you shop, record any final replies and export the updated guest list and RSVPs to Excel or CSV. Our guide to RSVP reminder texts has wording for each round of follow-up.
When to Send New Year's Eve Party Invitations
On Greenvelope, you can schedule the invitation send and RSVP reminder emails. This guide recommends the follow-up cadence below; the RSVP deadline, personal follow-up, and shopping are separate planning tasks. The windows are planning guidelines, and the dates in the right-hand column apply them to Thursday, December 31, 2026.
| Step | Planning guideline | For December 31, 2026 |
| Send the invitation | 4 to 6 weeks before the party | November 19 to December 3 |
| Reminder to guests who have not replied | About one week before the RSVP deadline | Around December 12 |
| RSVP deadline | A few days before the earliest caterer or venue final-count date; without one, this guide's recommendation is 11 to 13 days before the party | December 18 to 20 |
| Final RSVP reminder | On the RSVP deadline, only to guests who have not replied | December 18 to 20 |
| One personal follow-up | One or two days after the deadline | December 20 to 22 |
| Final count and shopping | After the follow-up, with a few days to spare | December 26 to 28 |
If guests are traveling, or the party needs tickets or a sitter, send at the early end of the window. If you are already inside four weeks, send as soon as the details are settled and keep the reply date far enough out to leave time for one reminder. Our timing guide covers the rest of the season, and the holiday party planning timeline lays out the hosting tasks week by week.

Frequently Asked Questions
How to send New Year's Eve party invitations online?
On Greenvelope, choose a New Year's design, add your wording and event details, set up the RSVP page, import your guest list, and send by email or by text message in supported countries. Guests reply on the invitation without creating an account, and replies collect on the Track step. You can send right away or schedule the send for a date and time you choose.
When should you send New Year's Eve party invitations?
As a planning guideline, send them 4 to 6 weeks before the party, which for December 31 means between about November 19 and December 3. Send at the early end when guests are traveling or need to arrange a sitter. Inside four weeks, send as soon as the details are settled.
Can you send New Year's Eve party invitations by text message?
Yes. Greenvelope sends invitations by text message in supported countries, with the same card and RSVP page as an email send. Choose one channel for each guest based on their contact details and preference. Paid accounts start with 500 text messages, with more available to purchase.
What should the RSVP deadline be for a New Year's Eve party?
On a Greenvelope invitation, set the requested RSVP date a few days before the earliest final-count date from your caterer or venue. For a house party with no caterer, this guide's recommendation is around December 18 to 20, which leaves time for one follow-up before you shop. Put the same date in the invitation wording.
What RSVP questions should a New Year's Eve invitation ask?
On Greenvelope, you can add questions to the RSVP page in dropdown, multiple choice, checkbox, or write-in formats. For New Year's Eve, the most useful are whether a guest is staying for the midnight toast, any dietary needs, and a non-alcoholic option for the toast. Keep it to one or two questions so replying stays quick.
How do you handle plus-ones on a New Year's Eve party invitation?
On Greenvelope, add known partners as named household members, and give a Plus 1 allowance to guests who may bring someone you have not named. The allowance is permission, not an attendance count. If space is fixed, the Maximum capacity setting limits attendance by capping yes replies.
Can you change a New Year's Eve invitation after sending it?
On Greenvelope, yes. You can edit the card for up to five months after sending, and the links guests already have show the updated card. For a change to the date, time, or address, also message guests directly so nobody relies on the earlier version.
How much does it cost to send New Year's Eve party invitations online?
Greenvelope single mailings start at $19 for a guest list of up to 20 people, with pricing based on list size and no subscription required. Everyone on the guest list counts toward the tier, including named partners. A trial send to up to 10 people needs no credit card.
